Have you ever bought a product and thought:
I wish it had this or that….
If it just would do this, it would be perfect.
How come it does not do that?
It is nice, but I am missing such and such…
Believe me, you are not alone. Sometimes I search forever and can only find a product that is ‘OK’, but is still lacking something. So, I have to settle for that product, as that is the closest to the one I am looking for. But in the back of my mind I think about ways to improve that product, at least for me.
Let me give you an example:
I bought 5 stainless steel cat food bowls. They are perfect in size and real stainless steel that does not smell like metal. But – when I use them outside on the concrete to feed my 5 stray cats they slide around when the kitties eat. This is not ideal. The bowls are ok in the grass or dirt, but anything smooth like concrete or tile does not keep them in place.
So, I thought about a solution to keep them from moving and after some trial and error I used my glue gun to make little dish holders. Now the cat bowls stay in one place and the kitties are happy.
Yes, there are cat bowls out there that have rubber on the bottom, but none is perfect. One I bought that had a rubber ring that came off every time I was washing the bowls, and the edges underneath were so sharp that I cut myself several times. And on top they were not even real stainless steel.
The other ones I still use are stainless steel and have a rubber sleeve. The nice thing is that they do not slide, but the bad thing is that when you wash the bowls, water enters underneath the sleeve and when you put the bowl down to fill again lots of water is leaking out.
Then I have some plastic bowls for winter, well, colder months as we do not have winter down here in South Florida. I use those because the stainless steel bowls get really cold and cool down the food. But these plastic bowls slide around too. They work great in the grass, but not so much on a smooth surface. I was thinking of using my glue gun to make maybe a little mat to put underneath, which should work. First I thought about making little strips on the bottom of the bowl, but that will come off when you wash the bowls. So something to put underneath is the way to go.
So, as you see, a little creativity will help improve some products. Let me know in the comments, if you have some tips or tricks to improve a product.
