Last night I wanted to turn off the TV and nothing happened when I pushed the button. Well, I tried several buttons – nope, still nothing. Thankfully as many of you probably can relate, there was a second remote nearby and I was able to turn off the TV.

This morning I wanted to know what was wrong with that remote, so my guess was – the batteries are dead. Well, not just that, but there was acid leaking from the batteries to the remote! And I am sure some of you can take a good guess which battery brand I am talking about – Duracell – again.
Duracell used to be a great battery brand with long lasting batteries. Then suddenly, their batteries were leaking acid like mad.
Batteries are part of our life. There are batteries everywhere – alarm clocks, electronics, remotes, fire alarm, carbon monoxide alarms, toys, you name it. As some devices are not crucial to our lives (sorry, I know some of us cannot live without our gadgets) there are devices like fire alarms and carbon monoxide detectors that are lifesaving. But that also means we need batteries that work.
I used to rely on Duracell, seeing their commercials and believing them. But after quite a few ruined devices from acid leakage, I started researching. And there are lots of people complaining about these issues.
The company does not acknowledge that there is something wrong with their batteries and keep on producing the same batteries. People complain and write to them, yes, I did too, but I did not even receive an answer to my email.
As we live in Florida and hurricanes are a part of life down here, we always have batteries in our house, which throughout the year we use and replace them. So, there are no “old” batteries around. But it gets frustrating when you buy a pack of new batteries and after a few weeks you need one and opening the package there is already acid leaking out of the batteries. Besides being dangerous and an environmental hazard it also costs money, and the price of batteries went up too, like everything else in our life.
Which now brings me to the point, if I want to save money in the long run, I will buy other brands, my favorite being Energizer batteries, and no, I am not getting paid to promote their brand. I just never had a problem with their batteries, and they last very long.
Now there are also some unknown brands available, which sometimes I use for things like flameless LED lights and candles – as they are safer for our cat. I have done pretty good with these, never had a problem.
For watches (my husband loves watches and has dozens), and yes, I change them myself being a jeweler, I prefer Renata. We always used them in the store, and they last a good long time.
So, when you buy your next batteries, maybe you will think about this post. Stay safe you all!
