Well, a while ago I wrote a review of my Swiffer Products. As I said there, I love my Swiffer, be it the Wet Jet, the Swiffer Duster or the Swiffer Sweeper. And I have used them for many many years. But all good things will eventually and unfortunately come to an end.
Last week I was going around with my Swiffer Sweeper and when I was sweeping under the bed suddenly, I heard a click. So, I slowly pulled it out and when I lifted the sweeper up the bottom part fell off. The plastic part had broken off and it did not stay in the handle anymore.
I was so sad, this Swiffer Sweeper was with me for the last 22 years – yes, you heard right 22 years. He literally was a member of our family. So, I was trying to think of a way to fix it, but my husband convinced me to get a new Swiffer Sweeper. It was really hard to let it go.
RIP dear Swiffer Sweeper – you were a wonderful companion and did a great job cleaning the floors and I will miss you.
That day my husband went to the store and said he would bring me a new Swiffer Sweeper. Not long after I got a text that said which one I want. I was confused, as I just want a normal Swiffer Sweeper. Well, through the years the sweeper had graduated and has now a couple sizes – the normal size I always used and the XL size, which is 1.5 x the size of my old sweeper.
That left me with the decision, should I get the larger one, which cleans a bigger area at once, or stay with my regular sweeper. Both have their advantages. My regular sweeper gets in small spaces, is very maneuverable and most of all I can clean with it behind the toilet. When I clean the living room floor, I might have to go more rounds, as the surface is smaller, but that is not a problem. I also had just bought new cleaning cloths for the sweeper and my microfiber cloths also fit perfectly on it.
On the other hand, with the XL Sweeper, I might be done cleaning faster, as it picks up dirt from a larger area at once. But getting it in the smaller corners and behind the toilet would be impossible to do. Also, I would have to buy new cleaning cloths and my microfiber cloths would not fit in the openings in order to tighten them.
So, after explaining that to my husband he bought the regular size Swiffer Sweeper. When I unpacked, I noticed that the pad on the bottom looks a little different – the rubber sticks out a little more, so getting in corners is now even easier. The top with the hole to hang it up is also a little bit differently. It seems that the hole is a little larger, so I am now able to hang it on the hook in the closet without using a string attached to the top.
As accessories they added two packages of wet cloths – one regular with one cloth and Pet Cleaning Wet Cloth for more heavy-duty cleaning with 2 cloths inside. It also had a small package of 7 dry cleaning cloths in the box.
I never used the heavy-duty Pet cleaning cloths, so after we still are going through some construction, I pulled out the wet cloth and tried it cleaning the bathrooms. I have to say I like it. The cloth is strong and well saturated with cleaning liquid, and it picked up the dirt very well. I might get a box of Pet Wet Cleaning Cloths the next time I go to the store, just for quick cleaning of certain areas like the kitchen or bathrooms.
My husband also got some heavy-duty dry Pet Cleaning Cloths and they pick up dust and hair very well. I have a black cat that does shed a little bit, thankfully not much, but enough to use the sweeper instead of a broom.
I got a new broom that is very heavy to carry around and makes my hands tired quickly just holding it and it does not pick up the dirt and hair, it just drags it around. That is another thing about my Swiffer Sweeper. It is light and easy to push it around. You can push it any direction you want – not so with a broom. And being that light, you don’t get tired holding the broom cleaning the whole house.
So, even my trusty Swiffer Sweeper companion is not with me anymore, his replacement does an outstanding job and is already a valued member of our household.
